Testing conducted in November 2001, at Ft. A.P. Hill,showed that extremely hard soil can be cut effectively with a low volume, about 1 1/2 gpm, water jet running at about 1250 psig. When used in tandem with the supersonic air jet hand tool, the two can handle all types of soils effectively.
The demining trailer system contains a 70 scfm, 150 psig rotary screw air compressor and a 2000 psi, 4 gpm water pump. The skid carries a 25 gallon water tank. The system can drive two supersonic air jet hand tools simultaneously and up to four water jet tools. The system is housed in an enclosed, two-wheel trailer.
This unit has been successfully deployed to Afghanistan and tested in 2004 by the Halo trust. A report on the testing can be found in the reference library.
